During our first five year term the BID consistently delivered measurable benefits to the business community.
Since the introduction of the BID we have seen crime statistics fall year on year. They now remain at a consistently low rate that makes Broad Street one of the safest streets in central Birmingham.
The BID’s spectacular displays of floral arrangements help to create a wecoming, colourful environment. We were delighted that the area was part of Birmingham city’s winning entry for the second year running in 2009 – winning gold in the Urban Community category and overall category winner in the national competition ‘Britain in Bloom’.
Our efforts to create a positive image of Broad Street continue through our marketing and pr activites. The strength of media coverage received is unprecedented. In the 12 months from April 2009 to March 2010 we received approximately £2.2m worth of positive media coverage.
The cleanliness of the area is one of the BID’s top priorities. With our partners and Birmingham City Council, we continue to invest in regular street cleaning, with street washes taking place three times each week together with stringent littler control and regular deep cleans to remove chewing gum. In 2009 we upgraded and improved our deep cleaning of the footpaths allowing for a larger area to benefit from this successful initiative.
Without a doubt, these efforts make Broad Street a brighter, safer, cleaner place to visit.
