Street Wardens

An enhanced daytime warden service commenced in July 2005, with wardens on patrol from 8.00 am to 10 am each morning, offering welcome reassurance for employees and business visitors en route to work in the area. This extra service is in addition to the patrols undertaken by the City Centre Street Warden Team.

Broad Street Wardens commenced evening patrols in February 2006. Working from Tuesday evenings through to Sunday evenings, the wardens offer safety and security to Broad Street visitors and employees.

The Wardens successfully deal with a whole range of issues, including offering directional assistance, reporting highway defects, removing illegal street traders andl placards together with assisting the Police with deterring street beggars.

There is also a late night Taxi Marshal scheme currently in operation on Friday and Saturday evenings, from 10pm to 4am. With two dedicated ranks, one on Broad Street near to the ICC and the other in Bishopgate Street near to to The Works nightclub and Cineworld, the marshalls ensure that visitors are able to get home quickly and safely.

The Wardens work closely in partnership with West Midlands Police, venue door supervisors, taxi companies and other agencies to prevent crime and importantly, to reduce the fear of crime.
